Description

The primary role of the Bilateral Department (BD) is to ensure that Bhutan’s relations with other countries are pursued in a manner that is consistent with its foreign policy goals and in Bhutan’s national interests. In the fulfillment of its foreign policy objectives, BD has three salient roles of policy analysis, recommendation and implementation of foreign policy objectives.

The Department is headed by a Director and consists of two Divisions: (1) Europe, Americas and Others Division (EAOD), and (2) Asia Division (AD).

The two Divisions under the Department are responsible for promotion and strengthening of bilateral relations between Bhutan and countries within the geographic zones and sub regions assigned to each Division.
