Coordinate all substantive, organizational and routine matters relating to the United Nations and its specialized agencies, and other regional and international organizations
Coordinate the Royal Government’s participation in all international conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes organized under the auspices of the UN and related agencies, and other international organizations
Coordinate Royal Government’s participation and working relations with international financial institutions, and other international and regional organizations
Process and coordinate all activities relating to Bhutan’s candidature to various posts at the UN, and Bhutan’s accession to international Conventions, treaties and other legal instruments

Bilateral Department

The primary role of the Bilateral Department (BD) is to ensure that Bhutan’s relations with other countries are pursued in a manner that is consistent with its foreign policy goals and in Bhutan’s national interests. In the fulfillment of its foreign policy objectives, BD has three salient roles of policy analysis, recommendation and implementation of foreign policy objectives.

The Department is headed by a Director and consists of two Divisions: (1) Europe, Americas and Others Division (EAOD), and (2) Asia Division (AD).

The two Divisions under the Department are responsible for promotion and strengthening of bilateral relations between Bhutan and countries within the geographic zones and sub regions assigned to each Division.

Department of Trade

Objective

The main objectives of the Trade Sector for the Tenth Plan period are to:

* Alleviate poverty through trade;
* Enhance contributions from trade to the national economy;
* Create a liberal and enabling environment for the growth of the private sector;
* Pursue trade liberalization and support private sector development;
* Enhance employment and revenue generation;
* Ensure stable market access for Bhutanese products;
* Promote competition and fair trade practices;
* Promote efficient distribution of goods and services;
* Strengthen institutional and professional capacity of the sector to fulfill its mandate; and
* Enhance growth of exports, particularly convertible currency exports.
